EYECASE STUDY

Life line Express, Mirzapur
More than ever, there is a growing importance for companies to invest and focus on fulfilling their civic duty and in turn benefit the whole society. Under Corporate social responsibility (CSR), a self-regulating business model, companies can practice corporate social responsibility to improve all aspects of society, including economic, social, and environmental. Through such programs companies can directly be involved in enriching the humanitarian projects ranging from the construction of roads to the alleviation of poverty while marking their presence in the market.
In response to these responsibilities, Taikisha contributed to the Lifeline Express initiative set out to provide state of the art 'Hospital on Wheels' for the patients in remote cities of the country to facilitate them with the best possible medical services. The train is a collaboration between Indian Railways and Impact India Foundation, where the maintenance of the train and other facilities such as water and electricity were under Railways and Impact India Foundation came with their medical expertise. During this period Taikisha provided publicity material, food, infrastructure, medicines, aids and appliances, accommodation etc. for the people in need and for the operation to achieve success in the extreme remote cities of the country.
The train was stationed at Mirzapur station of the North Central Railway from August 29 to September 18, 2017. These trains are even equipped with additional coaches which are dedicated only to cancer treatment. The objective of providing cancer treatment services is to create awareness about this deadly disease which has consumed many lives in the past. The lack of awareness makes it even more difficult for people to comprehend the true nature of the disease and hides them from the dark truth that lies ahead if not treated in the initial stage. Acknowledging it, the train has screening and diagnostic methods and even provides treatment to initial stage cancer patients. The facilities are also equipped with corrective orthopedic surgeries, targeting people afflicted with polio or club-foot deformities, cataract surgeries, plastic surgeries for cleft lips.

In this growing era of competition within the business world, it can be quite challenging for a company to set itself apart in the eyes of customers while maintaining a healthy contribution to the society and growing as a company too. However, through many surveys conducted across the world it has been discovered that people appreciate the company not only for its high-quality products but also for the activities that they do for the greater good of the people. This improves the engagement between an organization and the people while gaining mutual respect.
The Lifeline Express, which made its maiden journey on 16 July 1991, is a customized hospital train in collaboration with Indian Railways and Impact India Foundation for the people in need from the rural parts of the country where the medical facilities have failed to reach. The project was introduced so the villagers in remote areas are subjected to the state-of-the-art testing equipment, surgical facility and other medical care with zero charge.

The 215th Lifeline Express project involved one-of-a-kind hospital trains stationed at Bishrampur Railway station, Surajpur District, Chhattisgarh, from 6th September 2021 till 14th October 2021. Medical facilities were provided to the needy by giving corrective therapy and other medical services related to chapped lips, burnt limbs, cataract, ear and bone related emergencies under the supervision team of specialist doctors. Along with the train, the station had to accommodate OPD, beds for patients, stay for doctors and an accessible water system. During this period and as part of our annual Corporate social responsibility (CSR), Taikisha provided publicity material, food, infrastructure, medicines, aids and appliances, accommodation etc. for the people in need and for the operation to achieve success in the extreme remote cities of the country.
With awareness in the said region at its peak, a resounding number of registrations surfaced regarding various medical needs. The initiative attracted around 27,525 registrations, but this was not from the day go. It took time for the local people to be aware of the services and as they did the actual rush came in from the 6th day with registrations climbing to 1411 people in a single day which indeed created the momentum for the rest of the days. As expected also, the maximum number of patients which constituted more than 50% of the total belonged to the age of 40 to 49 and 50 to 59.
Summary
- Total Registration – 9271
- Total Surgeries – 1002
- Total Dental Procedures– 499
- Total Aids & Appliances (Spectacles, Hearing-Aids & Callipers) – 2278

The initiative took a huge leap in terms of treating and screening cancer patients too. Breast and Cervical Cancer related services were provided and about 203 people were given that treatment for free. It also provided Oral Cancer Treatment which amounted to 212 people in the span of one week which resulted in huge awareness about cancer in and around the city.

Free Vaccination Campaign
Coronavirus pandemic has been largely disruptive in terms of economy as employees and clients were affected by it on regular intervals and were unable to contribute in any manner. The pandemic has upended routines, overwhelmed health infrastructure and led to loss of lives with all businesses on the edge and has impacted the world of work significantly. Almost all the sectors have been adversely affected as the domestic demand was never met with the supply. It was also expected that the plummeting economy during and after the pandemic will increase unemployment and alter the business landscape.
Hence, Taikisha committed to protect its employee's health & well-being and manage the challenges during these unprecedented times and therefore emphasizes that vaccination is the most effective way to protect against severe illness or death from COVID-19. That is why we collaborated with local public health authorities to provide vaccinations for unvaccinated workers in the workplace all over India as we are deeply committed to supporting them during these uncertain times. We also do not show any disparity between our employees and common people. We managed to arrange a vaccination campaign for everyone with a sole intention to eradicate COVID-19 together and with force.

We were able to vaccinate a total of 4,385 people as a part of our Corporate social responsibility (CSR) across 5 cities. In terms of vaccination, we received the best response from Gurgaon and Pune with 1,974 and 1,380 people getting vaccinated respectively. Pune CV, Jamshedpur and Mumbai were low in numbers, but certainly not in enthusiasm to get rid of the pandemic as fast as possible.

Eye Case Study
NAME: Sukhram
ADDRESS: Amarpura, Surajpur
An elderly man, 71 years of age, has been suffering from poor vision for the past 5-6 years. He had a right watery eye which impaired his vision and with years of ignorance and lack of money the vision was dramatically getting worse. He did visit the local private clinic in Ambikapur about his concern, but did not experience any relief by the treatment.
The outreach team reached out to the community to spread the health awareness activities and as it has proved to be a blessing to many local residents in the past, the 215th Lifeline Express project at Bishrampur Railway station in Surajpur District came in as the last resort for the rapidly deteriorating right eye of Sukhram. The Outreach team met him midway on the road and interacted with him citing his problem. The team then explained to him the nature of the treatment and briefed on the services that are offered free of cost on the days indicated in the LLE Clinic Schedule.
Sukhram realized the urgency of the matter and was very happy to obtain services for free and immediately got himself registered to come on the OPD days designated to Vision treatment.
At the LLE OPD Dr. Bhavya Gokani consulted with him and suggested that he should undergo a cataract operation the following day of his appointment. Sukhram sought reassurance on the procedure's success to which the doctor immediately responded positively. The very next day he got operated for free at LLE and was discharged on the 2nd day of surgery and was asked to continue further treatment. At the time of his discharge, he also showered blessings on every team member as he seemed happy with the services he was provided with.
